Thrill-Seekers Wanted to Rappel from the Roof of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino to the Strip

Do you dare to go 350+ feet ‘Over the Edge’ for Special Olympics Nevada?

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 9, 2013) – The thrills of the Las Vegas strip seem endless. But it’s rare that adrenaline junkies get the opportunity to rappel more than 350 feet down the side of the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino – and for a good cause.

On October 11-12, 2013, Special Olympics Nevada will host its fourth annual Over the Edge event and invites all thrill seekers to once again harness in and defy gravity.

To secure a coveted spot on the rappel line, individuals must raise or personally donate a minimum of $1,000. The best part? The money raised will go toward supporting over 3,000 athletes of Special Olympics Nevada. Fundraising can be done by soliciting donations from family, friends and co-workers and through the online giving site www.overtheedgelasvegas.com.

“How many people can say they rappelled over-looking one of the most famous streets in the world, Las Vegas Boulevard?” said Maggie Schwarz, Regional Vice President, Special Olympics Nevada. “Raising the money to rappel is not a challenge once you explain what you are doing and that you are raising money for Special Olympics athletes in southern Nevada. People either think you are cool or crazy, but no matter what, they recognize their donation is worth the cause it supports,”

For the past three years, Over the Edge has raised close to a quarter of a million dollars to benefit local children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Caesars Entertainment, parent company of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, has sponsored the event all three years so far.

“We are thrilled to once again host this year’s Over the Edge event,” said David Hoenemeyer, regional president of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. “Rappeling down the side of one of Las Vegas’ most recognizable properties is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are proud of our three-year partnership with Special Olympics Nevada and hope this year’s event sees even greater success,” added Hoenemeyer.

The “Over the Edge” event will kick off on Friday, Oct. 11, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and rappellers will continue their descent down Planet Hollywood on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. No experience or prior training is required to participate.
