Event Description
Join our interpretive volunteers on walking tours of the Osceola National Forest.  
The Osceola National Forest is offering free interpretive hiking tours over the winter season.  
Every month through March we will meet at various locations around the forest and offer a bit of history about the location.   The walking tours will start at 10:00 AM each Saturday or as indicated by the date.   Hikes are approximately 1—3 miles in length.   Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes, bring plenty of water and snacks.
 
Saturday, November 25, 2017 – Fanny Bay Trail— Meet at 10:00 AM to learn about the swamps, bogs and stories of Fanny Bay.    Turn north on CR 250A, head north to Cobb Camp, make a right and follow FS Road 236 over the I-10 overpass.  The first left is the Fanny Bay Trail sign turn left and park at the trailhead.

Friday December 1st and Friday December 15, 2017 @ 1PM — Florida National Scenic Trail Hike from Ocean Pond Campground.  Meet at the Gatehouse and walk the Florida National Scenic Trail.  These hikes are longer in duration and will cover approximately 4—5 miles.  The campground is located off of CR 250A and US Highway 90, follow the signs. 

Saturday, December 2nd and December 23, 2017 @ 10 AM—Mt Carrie Trail hike.  Meet at Mt. Carrie trailhead on US Highway 90 about 10 miles from the Lake City Airport and join our interpretive hike as we listen to stories about the Longleaf Pine ecosystem and the early occupants of the forest.  

Saturday, December 9, 2017 – Olustee Battlefield Trail Hike —Meet at the Olustee Battlefield at US Highway 90 between I-10 and Lake City, Florida.   Learn about the history of the Olustee Battle and the historical characters that played a part in the conflict between the north and south.

December  16, 2017  - Olustee Depot Christmas Past Open House.   11 AM to 4 PM.  Visit the Olustee Depot throughout the afternoon and learn about how Christmas was celebrated during the 1860’s.   Bring the kids for hot cocoa and cookies, Christmas crafts, stories of Old St. Nick, Christmas Carols and more.

December 30, 2017 —Olustee Beach Walking Tour. 10:00 AM—12 PM. Located on US Highway 90 and CR 231, turn north at blinking light in Olustee and meet in the main parking lot.   This 2.5 mile hike through the Trample Track Trail, and around earthen works telling the story of turpentine, forestry and earthworks built for battle.

The Hikes are scheduled to occur at the dates and locations listed above.   Most hikes are scheduled for Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 Noon.  The locations vary according to the above schedule.   Please call the contact number if you have any questions or would like to register.   

All hikes are free to the public.   Most hikes will have bathroom access except for Mt. Carrie.  Each hike will take approximately one-two hours.  Contact Linda and Jay Bukalski at
