Event Description
Tours are on most Saturdays at 1 and 3 p.m. (some exceptions, see schedule for details)*

Civil War Battle of Congaree Creek:
Walk with us on the 12,000 Year History Trail to hear stories of soldier and civilian accounts of what happened during the burning of Columbia.

First Fort Congaree:
Walk this beautiful trail while hearing the story of the 1718 to 1722 frontier fort and trading post.

Native American Lifeways:
Learn interesting insights on the lifeways and strategic roles Native Americans played in the economy and welfare of the Carolina colony and later periods while talking a walk on the beautiful trails of this historical park. You'll also learn how historic resources of the park are relevant to the lives and culture of Native peoples today, including the Cherokees, Catawbas, and other living groups.

Natural History:
Walk with us and help identify some of the more conspicuous, and perhaps not so conspicuous, plants and animals that occur at the History Park. We’ll discuss how terrain, soils and the general “lay of the land” affect animals, insects, plant distribution and abundance.

All tours are led by National Park Service trained volunteers and are about 2 miles (60 to 90 minutes).

We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water.
