Luther College hosts an After the Lecture discussion
Community Event Art Performances & Education Calendar
Luther College professor of philosophy Storm Bailey will facilitate a discussion surrounding the questions raised by author Jonathan Haidt's Oct. 23 Farwell Distinguished Lecture. This discussion, held in Valders Hall of Science Room 206, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, is open to the public with no charge for admission.
6:30 - 8:00 PM
Luther College - Valders Hall of Science 700 College Drive Room 206 Decorah, IA 52101
The discussion will focus on some of the more provocative questions raised by Haidt's lecture. "Are insensitive comments microaggressions?" "Does speech have the power to do harm?" "Are there ideas that can't be raised in the Luther classroom?" Seizing the energy that has been generated from Haidt's lecture, the discussion aims to spur conversations about the reactions people had to Haidt's visit. The community is invited to come and contribute their thoughts and opinions to the event.
Bailey has received his Bachelor of Arts from Wheaton College and his Doctor of Philosophy from University of Madison.
This event is sponsored by the Luther College Center for Ethics and Public Engagement.
