Radon Testing is highly recommended by the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH). Why you say? According to Iowa AIR Coalition and the IDPH, radon is responsible for 400 deaths annually in Iowa and is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Also, 5 out of 7 houses have radon levels above the EPA action levels.
These facts provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health may get a person wondering if they have radon in their homes. The Winneshiek County Extension & Outreach Office will be holding two Radon Testing Programs back to back on November 29, 2018 from 6:30 - 7:15 PM and 7:30 - 8:15 PM at the Upper Explorerland Conference Room, 325 Washington Street Suite A, Decorah, IA 52101. Ronald Lenth, the Bremer County Extension Coordinator, will be presenting radon detection information and free publications for you to take home. The Winneshiek Extension & Outreach Office will be giving away free radon testing kits to the first 10 participants who register for either session. Radon testing kits will be available for purchase after both programs. If we have radon testing kits left after the programs, we will be selling them in our office for a limited time.
Registration fee is $10 per person and the deadline to register is November 15, 2018.
