Sheriff and Police Departments Give Public Talks

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department and the Decorah Police Department have both presented popular library programs for children in recent years; now Library staff have announced that two programs for older audiences will be offered in January. Come to Decorah Public Library Tuesday January 15 at 6:30 p.m. to hear Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx’ presentation “Staying Safe.”
Sheriff Marx said “’Staying Safe’ is designed to give attendees tools to avoid an attack before it occurs by being aware of the situation, surroundings, and detecting pre-attack indicators. The program is appropriate for men and women of all ages.”

Return to the Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday January 29 to hear Decorah Police Officer Scott Jennings present “Emerging Illegal Drug Trends in Northeast Iowa.” A member of the Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force, Jennings will discuss topics including: recognizing suspected illegal drug activity in your neighborhood, identifying drug use in young adults, drug identification and recognition, and tactics used by local law enforcement to combat the illegal drug trade.
A short question and answer session will follow the presentation. The program is open to all; parents and educators are especially encouraged to attend.
