Chatfield Center for the Arts 405 Main St S Chatfield, MN
As a singer and mandolinist, Sierra Hull boasts a resume more noteworthy than most accomplish in a lifetime. The former child prodigy signed with Rounder Records at age 13. Berklee School of Music honored her with their most prestigious award in 2011, the Presidential Scholarship (a first for a bluegrass musician). At 27, she has traveled around the world sharing her music, playing rooms such as the White House, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center. She has shared the stage with the likes of Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs; Bela Fleck produced her recent and long-anticipated fourth album, Weighted Mind, on which her ethereal voice and fluid playing take center stage. Although typically referred to as a Bluegrass artist, Sierra's original music and superb talent blurs the lines between bluegrass, chamber, and pop to shine a spotlight on a virtuoso who tells the truth and speaks from herself.
10 String Symphony will open the February 21 concert at Potter Auditorium. Named for their unique instrumentation of two five string fiddles alternated with a five string banjo, 10 String Symphony is the collaboration between Grammy-nominated fiddle player Christian Sedelmyer (The Jerry Douglas Band), and acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Baiman. Since their inception in 2012, the duo has gained the attention of NPR’s Jewly Hight, who listed them among “The Newest and Best Voices in Americana” for their unique and compelling vocal and string arrangements, which are at once traditionally informed yet completely avant garde.
Advance, reserved seating tickets to experience Sierra Hull with support from 10 String Symphony are $24 for main floor left/right and balcony areas, $28 for main floor center; ticket prices are $29 and 33 at the door the night of.
