Luther College Jazz Orchestra to perform Homecoming Concert

The Luther College Jazz Orchestra will present their homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. This concert is the culmination of the Jazz Orchestra's 2019 Midwest Tour, consisting of stops in Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota.
The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The program will include a variety of jazz standards, as well as brand new works written by members of the ensemble.
As one of Luther's four major touring ensembles, the Jazz Orchestra travels annually and tours abroad every four years. The group will travel to Brazil in May 2020.
The Jazz Orchestra has been featured at the Iowa Jazz Championships and Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference. Guest artists and clinicians on campus in recent years include Danilo Pérez, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Luciana Souza, Kenny Barron, David Sanchez and Kurt Elling.
Jazz Orchestra recordings include: "Aquarela" in 2013 and "Transformations" in 2011. "Sketches of Sound: From Swing to Frevo" will be released this summer.
Students of jazz at Luther have the opportunity to participate in two jazz bands, a vocal jazz ensemble, jazz combos, register for studio lessons in improvisation and take courses in jazz improvisation, composition, arranging and history.
