If it was not for the White Bear Area Meals on Wheels Program, many of our senior neighbors would not be able to live independently and remain in their homes. We serve more than 100 neighbors over 18,000 meals each year.
Each meal is delivered with a friendly knock on the door from a Meals on Wheels volunteer. A daily visit from a Meals on Wheels volunteer gives a neighbor the precious human contact we all need. It also gives our volunteers a chance to identify illness or injuries early so that our elderly neighbors get help before minor problems become medical emergencies.
Meals on Wheels provides a cost-effective solution that serves all. Meals on Wheels can serve a senior for an entire year for the same cost as just one day in a hospital or 10 days in a nursing home. White Bear Area Meals on Wheels can’t do it alone. It truly does “take a village”. You can make a difference.

Earline's Story:
I didn’t find Meals on Wheels, Meals on Wheels found me.
At a lonely time in her life, Earline would sit on her stoop everyday waiting for the mail to come. Luckily, a Meals on Wheels Volunteer noticed her and started a relationship between Earline and the White Bear Area Meals on Wheels Program that has lasted almost twenty years.
It helps me get the fruits and vegetables I need.
Earline struggled to cook for one. Low moods paired with low appetite but she felt better on Meals on Wheels. Earline quickly moved from receiving three meals a week to five because she felt hungry again and looked forward to receiving them.
It’s someone to check in on you and know that you are alright.
The White Bear Area Senior Program has been with Earline through good days and bad: a move to a new home, her son’s wedding, the arrival of grandchildren and a kidney transplant. Along the way, our Elder Resource Specialists connected her to medical, dental, transportation, grocery and companion services.
I just became a Senior Center Member for the umpteenth time!
No longer isolated, Earline has connected with her neighbors at the White Bear Senior Center often over the years. She has enjoyed fitness classes, card games, lunches with Friends Who Care and visiting the Craft Corner Gift Shop.
