Albuquerque Latino Film Festival ¡Cine Magnífico! 2018

Albuquerque Latino Film Festival ¡Cine Magnífico! 2018

It is the distinct honor and pleasure of Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque, in collaboration with Bernalillo County, The National Hispanic Cultural Center, University of New Mexico, AHCNM Convention and Tourism Department, ABQ Film Office and The Guild Cinema to present the 6th edition of Albuquerque Latino Film Festival ¡Cine Magnífico! on September 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th 2018.

This year’s program offers a broad panorama of the Spanish and Latin American contemporary cinema through high quality feature and short film productions from diverse countries and local filmmakers. Our website (http://cinemagnifico.com/) offers detailed information about the films, directors, actors, as well as a rich archive containing information on films presented in previous years.

The motivation behind ¡Cine Magnífico! has always been (but especially with today’s political and social climate) to cover the issues that exist in our own communities - to aim a light at our comunidades latinas in the US, and “endow them with visibility”.  This is the magic of cinema: visibility - the truest sense of cinematic and visual arts.  Our own lives - our shared joys and concerns - shine through the screen, along with elegant music scores, true characters, stunning settings, gorgeous costumes, and well-told stories. These pieces of moving art were designed and crafted for us - for our communities - to validate our shared and individual feelings and experiences that so often go unexpressed, marginalized, left to the whispers of each day.  These cinematic works turn those lingering whispers into distinct harmonies.

Our films this year come from Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Venezuela, and the Latino community in the United States, especially from New Mexico. They will be shown at different venues in Albuquerque: The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC), University of New Mexico (UNM Student Union Building), The Kimo Theater, and The Guild Cinema.

Ticket purchase is available online, and in-person at the venue ticket box office during the festival days, and one hour before the screening. Prices are: General Admission $10 for feature films and $5 for the short films program; Seniors & Students $8; Pass to four films $25; and Complete Festival Pass $48 *.

We look forward to seeing you next September 5th and throughout the festival filled with eye-opening films from various countries of Latin America and Spain.
