Jim Wells County Deputy Robert Waldrop has an act for recovering stolen vehicles and has seized numerous others involved in human smuggling. For his dedication to the law enforcement community Deputy Waldrop was named as the Law Officer of the Year sponsored by the Coyote Cooks, Alice Chamber of Commerce and the Law Appreciation Committee at the 23rd Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner.
Deputy Waldrop has been with the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department since 2011. On December 2012, the deputy was assigned to the JWC K-9 division with his K-9 partner Sena.
“Deputy Waldrop is a dedicated and committed officer and has shown concern for his fellow officers and for the citizens of this county.” JWC Sheriff Oscar Lopez said. “He is very punctual and seldom calls in sick.”
In 2012, Waldrop answered 284 calls for service while on duty.
“Waldrop has developed outstanding interdiction skills and as a result has recovered several stolen vehicles and has seized numerous others involved in human smuggling,” Sheriff Lopez said. “Deputy Waldrop took the initiative to sign up for an interdiction class in the state of Oklahoma. He took vacation time and paid for his interdiction class on his own.”
More than 75 enforcement officers and family members from the Alice Police Department, Texas DPS, Jim Wells County Sheriff Department, Orange Grove Police Department, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Premont Police Department, San Diego Police Department and Duval Sheriff’s Department.
Aside honoring Waldrop, three high school seniors were awarded scholarships from the Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee.
