The much anticipated Alice Multi-Use Complex is open to the public. The state-of-the-art natatorium and water park owned by the City of Alice held its grand opening on Friday, July 1, 2016.

“The message was clear, as a community we can do this. Look around, this facility is yours the citizens of Sweet Alice,” Alice Mayor Ike Ornelas said. “I would be remiss if I didn’t thank each of you for your prayers, your commitment and your perseverance toward moving forward to see the fruits of our labor.”

The natatorium side of the building features an Olympic size eight-lane, 25-yard swimming pool, three diving boards and depth pool. Outside, the water area welcomes a 30-foot closed flume and a 30-foot speed slides, kiddie pool with zero depth and a lazy river.

“This project has been the vision of many people who have diligently given their time and efforts to diversify our economy and ensure we create a better community,” the mayor said. “Today we bear witness to the celebration of your Multi-Use Complex and we stand together as one, as we officially open the doors with the ribbon cutting. I ask you to be proud, take ownership, protect this state of the art facility and above all have fun.”

Grand opening festivities included the blessing of the building by Alice clergy, drawings for free passes, games for kids, mariachi music and diving and swimming exhibitions.
