Old Fashioned BBQ speakers will highlight State of Local Economy

Juan A. Navejar Jr.

The state of our economy for Alice and Jim Wells County will be the subject of our guest speakers for this year’s Lucien Flournoy Old Fashioned Barbecue on October 6, 2016.
This year’s guest speakers are Texas Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and Texas Representative J.M. Lozano who will address on the State of Our Area along with a question and answer session on our local economy.
“We understand the economic state of our area and felt our elected state officials can enhance their perspective of economic growth in area,” Chamber Executive Director Juan Navejar said. “This will not be a political event but an event that brings light to what our future holds in our area with the assistance of the State of Texas.”
The committee is working to make this year’s event very informative on our economic state for the area and its outlook in the near future.
“We are very aware that many sponsor’s budgets have been reduced for local events; however, it is highly important that the business community keep this long standing tradition alive to provide a forum for discussion on our situation and how best to weather the storm. To help with this endeavor the investment for this year’s event has been lowered from $600 to $500,” Event Chairman Kevin Downes said.
The Old Fashion Barbecue is an invitation only event organized by the Chamber of Commerce and serves an information gathering for its members and guest. Each sponsor gets to invite 16 people to the event.

The Old Fashion Barbecue is set for Thursday, October 6th at the Jim Wells County Fairgrounds Merchants Building and begins at 6:30 p.m.
