Board President's Memo

Marisol Carvajal-Garcia

Happy New Year! I am Marisol Carvajal-Garcia. It is with great pleasure to serve as this year’s board president. I would like to take this opportunity to thank R. David Guerrero for serving as board president in 2016. Also, I would like to thank our out-going board members Nena Castillo-Pitts, Ofelia Hunter, Toby Flores, Dr. Grace Everett, Dr. Roel Valadez, DDS, Rodrigo Rodriguez and Albert Martinez for their dedication to the Chamber and serving on the board.

I wish new board members, Cynthia Carrasco, Bobby Galindo, Rick Medina, Bertha Rodriguez, and Mellie Smithwick a warm welcome to the board. Our first meeting of the year has us   appointing vice-presidents and committees. New board member orientation is next week.

This year we have some challenges as our community’s economic state has changed due to the downturn in oil and gas industry. We are working with the Alice Jim Wells County Economic Development to do our best to change the way we do business in the Hub City. We have goals and objectives we want to accomplish together to make sure the future of Alice makes a successful turnaround.

This year marks the Chamber’s 80th Anniversary which will be celebrated at the annual banquet in March. Applications for Citizen of the Year are now available at the Chamber. We will be selling sponsor tables as well which sell pretty fast. We are working on the guest speaker and should have someone confirmed soon. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

We look to have a successful year and wish all of you the best in 2017.
