Executive Director's Message

Juan A. Navejar Jr.

The start of a new year is always a great time to set goals. While setting personal resolutions is a great way to begin the year, here are a few to help your business.
  1. Learn how to delegate. Running a business, whether small, medium or large, can be easy for you to get lost and overwhelmed. If you continue to try and do everything yourself, you will eventually run out of gas or get burned out early in the new year. Determine what employees can do for the company and delegate some of the tasks you normally do to them.
  2. Use your resources to promote your business. Alice is blessed to have two great entities to help you in the print media. Take advantage of specials they offer from time-to-time. If this is not in your budget, then try the social networks to promote yourself more.
  3. Plan for the week if you can. Know what holidays are coming up and use it in a promotional event. Planning ahead can help you decide which direction you want to go. Next month is Valentine’s Day. Start planning for sales that bring in love birds who will want to get something for their sweetie.
  4. Try something new. Don’t be afraid to try something different in your business. If you have never advertised, try it. If you have never tried a coupon offer, why not? If you have not optimized to the Chamber’s website, here’s your chance. There are endless of possibilities for you to try something new in your business.
  5. Network more. If you have not attended a Chamber Mixer or Chamber Luncheon now is the time to start planning to attend the next luncheon will be in February. This is a great way to meet other Chamber members who can make contacts for you. Who knows you may make a business connection.
  6. If your business had a great year why not share the wealth. I am not saying to splurge simply find a worthy organization that can make a difference in the community. There are so many like NOAH, Optimist, Rotary, veteran service organizations to name a few. Make a small donation or contribution to one of their fundraisers.
  7. Don’t forget about yourself. Schedule your vacation on the company calendar early on that way everyone knows when you will be gone and they can plan ahead themselves. Even better ask all employees when they plan their vacation and have everyone post in on the company calendar, this will save your heartache when someone springs on you they will be gone next week due to vacation.
  8. Be realistic. If something did not work in 2016, don’t plan the same thing for 2017. Set a goal that can be achieved. If you say you will surpass this year’s sales by 50 percent be realistic, that may be too high of a goal to reach.
These are only a few resolution ideas for you to be prosperous in 2017. Have a great year and God Bless you all.
