Local elected officials along with Alice and Jim Wells County residents made the trek to the State Capitol in Austin for Jim Wells County Day 2017.
“It’s great to see things like this, when we can all meet with our state officials as a group,” Jim Wells County Judge Pete Trevino Jr. said. “We know we have some concerns because of our economy and having them hear from us can be beneficial.”
Jim Wells County officials to include Judge Trevino, County Court at Law Judge Michael Garcia, Commissioners Margie Gonzalez and  Carlos Gonzalez along with County Clerk JC Perez and County Attorney Michael Guerra were recognized on the Senate floor by Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa.
In the House of Representatives, Alice City Manager Andy Joslin, Councilmen Ron Burke and Pete Beltran were joined by Chamber Board President Marisol Carvajal-Garcia on the House floor.
“It’s with great pleasure that I get to represent these great folks standing behind me and those in the gallery from my district,” Representative JM Lozano said.
Joining Rep Lozano on the floor was former Alice resident Rep Richard Raymond. Together they held up an Alice Coyote Helmet symbolic of the great football teams from the Hub City.
After both resolutions were read in each chamber, Rep Lozano address the South Texas contingency on the key issues facing the legislature this year that included education and funding for counties hit by the oil and gas industry.

Jim Wells County Day was organized by the Alice Chamber of Commerce.
