Lozano named Citizen of the Year

A surprised yet humble Joe Lozano accepted this year’s Citizen of the Year award. The long time Tejano Music promoter and community advocate was all smiles as he thanked several people.
“I was not prepare to win but I want to thank my wife, Lala, my family, Tejano ROOTS for make the nomination,” Lozano said, “I am deeply honored to accept this award. I thank the Chamber for giving me this honor.”
Lozano’s’ commitment to the community did not go unrecognized. An out-of-town committee selected him among other entries submitted to the Alice Chamber of Commerce. Nominations were received in sealed envelopes and delivered to the committee by two board members of the Chamber.
“When we saw his package and his involvement and dedication, we knew he was a right choice,” the selection committee said.
Lozano was born in Alice and attended public school here and is a graduate of William Adams High School.
He served in various organizations in the Hub City and has served a president, board of director and district chairperson in these organizations He was a veteran and a member of the American Legion Post. He has served on the Community Action Board and is on Crime Stoppers, a member of the Hispanic Heritage Committee and is presently a Board of Director for the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame.

“Joe started at KOPY radio and brought big name acts to Alice on Monday nights and became known as Mr. ‘Este Lunes’,” Bobby Pena owner of BMJ Communications said. “Joe is still active today promoting and volunteering with organizations like Tejano ROOTS and the Hispanic Heritage festival. He offers his expertise to these organizations on how to have and promote successful events.”
