Some excited and surprised employers were honored at the 77th Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet.
Chamber Executive Director Juan A. Navejar Jr presented the Small Employer of the Year to Walgreens, Large Employer Excellence to Del Cielo Home Health and the Employer of the Year to H-E-B.
“We were just happy to be nominated,” Walgreens manager Rodrigo Rodriguez said. “We are really happy about the honor.”
Andres Elizondo, owner of Del Cielo Home Health was ecstatic about their award.
“I was not planning on attending as I had a meeting in Corpus Christi. I am really glad I attended and extremely proud of our award,” he said.
For H-E-B store director Sylvia Campos the honor was icing on the cake for them.
“We will go share this award with all our employees,” Campos said. “We are extremely happy to give back to our community and real proud of this honor.”
Will Heavin with Heavin and Associates of the Corpus Christi served as the guest speaker for the banquet.  His message dealt with Health Care Reform.
“We know its impact on the communities across America on what we call ‘Obama Care’ but more importantly here is the impact on our small businesses, large business and for those individuals with don’t have insurance,” Heavin said. “We know the impact it will have on your businesses and the impact our government will have for those who do not comply.”
Along with the Chamber awards, the Alice Ambassadors selected Nena Castillo-Pitts as the Ambassador of the Year presented by 2013 Ambassador President Nicole Perez-Morris.
