It’s official, the first cold front of the autumn season has hit and boy it felt nice. It really put those scorching hot temperatures to bed at least for awhile. October has come to an end and November is here. Where does the time go? Here at the information center we have been busy with flooded calls and visitors from all over has been great for the city of Alice. Just the other day we had a foreign visitor with an accent that you don’t come across all the time. She strolled in looking for attractions and places to visit on her stay here at Alice. I was curious on her accent so much that I proceeded to ask this sweet woman by the way are you French and she then replied with yes I am. Much to my amazement I was like “wow” we literally get people from all over to come visit our quaint little town. It was nice to see the interest she had in Alice.
The month of October was quite busy with great success in every single event. We had so many people from all over attend and participate in the Jim Wells County Fair to the Alice Street Rod Run each saw crowds in numbers. November is looking great with various things happening here in Alice - kicking it off with the Veterans Day Celebration that will begin Sunday, November 6th at the Alice International Airport starting at 11 am -7 pm. So come by and celebrate with great music, food booths, and lots of family activities for the kids. Next up will be The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas hosting their Tribal Pow-Wow on November 25th - 26th at the JWC Fair Grounds. The celebrations continue here at the Chamber as we announce our first ever 12 Days of Christmas Celebration. This fun filled event will take place right after the kickoff off our 30th Annual Illuminated Christmas Parade. We will have some show stopping entertainment this holiday season. There will a lighted train ride with Santa, a dress-up your pet day to celebrity Christmas readings and much-much more. Back to the details of our Christmas parade, this years theme will be the “Sounds of Christmas” the parade will be on Tuesday, November 29th starting at 6 pm. It will have it’s usual parade route which will begin at the City West Ball Park on North Cameron head south on Cameron and then turn west onto Main Street disbanding just past Aransas Street at Dixie Iron Works. The NEW Coastal Bend Traveler Magazine is out and available at the Chamber. Applications for 2011 project funding are now available at the Chamber of Commerce. We have made some changes in the administering of funding for event promotions. The CVB will no longer make checks payable to the applying entity but to the advertising agencies contracted to promote events. They will be due 60 days prior to an event in order to receive board approval for events to be held in Alice. All requests must be presented to the Chamber board for approval before granting assistance from the CVB. Funding will be done a bit different this year. Aside from the application, the CVB will require a business plan and proof of insurance before awarding funding to assure we are using proper documentation of the hotel tax. People walking through our doors are asking for information on Alice, the area or asked for phone books and maps of Alice and Texas. Some 50 Relocation/information packets were sent out during the month of October. The promotion of Alice through the CVB is administered by the Alice Chamber of Commerce.
