The weather sure has turned colder and the end of the year is now less than 30 and counting.
Winter Texans have begun to arrive and we welcome them back to South Texas. In January, the CVB will head south to McAllen for the International Travel Show that attracts many Winter Texans. We will also attend the Texas Coastal Bend Regional Tourism Council (TCBRTC) Travel Show in Aransas Pass.
Speaking of TCBRTC, Juan Navejar was elected as the 2012 Vice President of the organization. The purpose of the Texas Coastal Bend Regional Tourism Council is to promote tourism in the South Texas Coastal Bend Region. Navejar is joined by President Nancy Deviney of the Texas Tropical Trails and Secretary Claire Barnhart Korth, owner of Barnhart Q5 Ranch & Retreat in Goliad County.
The 12 Days of Christmas have been very successful and very well received by the community. The annual parade brought out a record crowd for the lighting of downtown and the arrival of Santa Claus. Movie night saw a great crowd enjoy a Christmas movie on the side of the Chamber/CVB and some 39 pets took their picture with Santa Claus.
The CVB is also working on the 2012 budget which will be presented to the Alice City Council in January.
We are seeing more traffic through our doors with people either relocating because of the economic boom or people getting ready to travel this summer. The new Coastal Bend Traveler Magazine is out and available at the Chamber.
Applications for 2012 project funding will be available at the Chamber of Commerce beginning in January.
The CVB is no longer making checks payable to the applying entity but to the advertising agencies contracted to promote events. They are due 60 days prior to an event in order to receive board approval for events to be held in Alice. All requests must be presented to the Chamber board for approval before granting assistance from the CVB.
Aside from the application, the CVB will require a business plan and proof of insurance before awarding funding to assure we are using proper documentation of the hotel tax.
The promotion of Alice through the CVB is administered by the Alice Chamber of Commerce.
