Childers named Officer of the Year

Alice Police officer Jason Childers was named the 2012 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year during a presentation at the Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner sponsored by the Coyote Cooks, Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee and the Alice Chamber of Commerce.
Alice Police Chief Daniel Bueno commends Childers as an excellent choice for the honor.
“In the four years that Officer Childers has been employed with the Alice Police Department. He has grown into a remarkable officer that shows enthusiasm and initiative in everything that he does,” Chief Bueno said.
In December 2011, Officer Childers was placed in charge of the Alice Police Department Gang Unit. Since his placement, he created a gang data base that is being utilized by the police gang unit.
“He has been instrumental in providing information to our law enforcement officers as well as surrounding law enforcement agencies regarding violent gang members that are within our community,” the Chief said. “This valuable information has helped us identify these individuals.”
Aside the gang unit officer Childers is also a Field Training Officer.
"I have known officer Childers since he started with us and have served like his mentor since and he has come a long way," Officer Tony Aguilar said. "He is well deserving of this honor."
