From the Board President

Half of the year has gone by and it’s time to start thinking about the Board leadership for the Chamber. Ike Ornelas is the Board President –Elect and in accordance with the Chamber By-Laws, a nominations committee was established to replace five out-going board members. The committee consists of myself, Ike Ornelas, Lane Bowen, Mark Dominguez and Executive Director Juan Navejar. Our role will be to find individuals who will continue guiding the Chamber. We have a great staff and with a strong board the sky is the limit.
During the July board meeting, the board opted to have Winter Golf Tournament to help with financial strain in hiring a part-time employee. With the increase traffic at the Chamber, we have a need for a part-time assistant to help Juan and Veronica.  We have seen an increase in telephone calls, walk-ins and more inquiries about Alice. We should see increase traffic as well with the hiring of the new EDC Director. On behalf of the board of directors we welcome Warren Ketteman, Alice JWC EDC Director to the Hub City.
The Old Fashion BBQ is set for Thursday, October 11th at the JWC Fair Merchant Bldg. The guest speaker is Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman. We still have room for more sponsors. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event can contact the Chamber at 361-664-3454.
Finally, we will all the students the best as they head back to school this month. Don’t forget the Tax Free Weekend on Aug. 17-19 and remember to Shop Alice.
