From the Executive Director

We live in fast paced world where it seems everyone lives in a rush these days. Shopping in Alice has its perks because on the most part, the local business knows its customers on a personal level and that makes for good customer service. Even when shopping locally in the big chain stores the people behind the counter know the regular customers.
Good customer service is the key to keeping those customers happy. Without these customers who are your bread and butter your business could take a nose dive if you happen to get a bad reputation.
Just this week, I experienced poor customer service at a restaurant. I know Alice lunch crowds are hectic for our local businesses, but that is not an excuse for poor customer service. The Alice Chamber of Commerce has a solution for businesses in need of training. I am a certified instructor in the “Art of Customer Service” with training received at Texas A&M College Station from the AgriLife Extension. Through the certification, the Chamber is here to offer you assistance to improve your customer service.
Customer Service in a nutshell is about CIVIL. CIVIL deals with Culture – finding out what your business is about and your target market. Internal and External Service is knowing your customer directly. Value tells us what the customer thinks about you the business. Ideal Commitment tells to what extent is your business going to go to keep that customer coming back, Listening keeps your ears open to what your customer is telling you. CIVIL is the core to good customer service. CIVIL is the concept we teach to get your business on the right track to keep your customers happy. This is only a sample of what you can gain from our Customer Service training.
Basically, the Customer Service training goals are to

  • Make the customer feel heard
  • Make the customer feel understood
  • Make the customer feel liked
  • Make the customer feel respected
  • Make the customer feel helped
  • Make the customer feel appreciated

If you can achieve these daily, you are on the right track. If you would like to schedule a session, contact the Chamber at 361-664-3454. We can schedule you for a two-hour session and get you on the right track to good customer service.
