From the Board President

Ike Ornelas

Happy New Year I am Ike Ornelas, the 2013 Chamber Board President. Each month in 2013 we will look into 13 Resolutions which are the goals to engage wisdom by learning how to apply the right principles at the right time.
These resolutions are grouped into these categories: Private, Public and Leadership Achievements.
The mission of the Alice Chamber of Commerce is to promote economic and community development in Alice, Jim Wells County and the surrounding trade area.
Our purpose is to help businesses outshine all its competitors and drive its economic engine.
This must start with oneself.
There is an inscription in a Bishop’s tomb at Westminster Abby:
When I was young and free my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser I discovered the world would not change – So I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country, but it too seemed immovable.
As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.
And now I realize as I lie on my deathbed, if I had only changed myself first, then by example I might have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement I would then have been able to better my country. And who knows, I might have changed the world.
Leading by example and becoming a better version of oneself within our Chamber will open up opportunities to better serve our community.
We look forward to a great year. We began the year with a successful golf tournament. We thank all our sponsors who made the event possible. Our annual Chamber banquet this spring is already being planned and expect to be the best one yet.
