The importance of not just Texas A&M but research universities is the message Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp gave at the Alice Chamber of Commerce 76th Annual Banquet during his key-note address at the event.
The Aggie Chancellor taking a fun jab here and there at rival University of Texas during his speech kept the crowd in check throughout the night.
“It’s Texas A&M research who is making the changes in this world along with other institutes like the University of Texas and Baylor when it comes to medicine, vaccines and the industry. Some make a point here and a point there and a lot of bull in the middle,” Sharp said in gesture of the University of Texas. “When sending your kids to college, we welcome all at Texas A&M.”
Sharp made remarkable attributes to Texas A&M who assisted with the devastation in the city of West, Texas along with other disasters in our country.
“It’s the students of Texas A&M who are making the difference,” the Chancellor said.
In closing he attributed more pokes at UT.
“I am Aggie. My wife went to UT, my daughter went to UT and my aunt went UT. I didn’t realize it was a women’s university,” Sharp gestured. “But seriously, it the research universities in Texas that are making it happen in our country.”
Along with the guest speaker, the Chamber recognized award recipients that included the Alice Ambassador of the Year – Clare Atkinson-Wonders presented by 2012 Ambassador President Dee Dee Arismendez. Executive Director Juan A. Navejar Jr presented the Small Employer of the Year to Macareno Signs and Graphics of Alice, Large Employer Excellence to Wells Fargo Bank and the Employer of the Year to Alice Chevrolet.
