In March 2010, President Obama signed comprehensive health reform, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), into law. The law makes preventive careÂincluding family planning and related servicesÂmore accessible and affordable for many Americans.  While some provisions of the law have already taken effect, many more provisions will be implemented in the coming years.

The Retirement Check-In® study found that on average, Americans nearing retirement report a gap of nearly $200,000 between what they have saved, and what they believe they will actually need to live comfortably in retirement. Although it is no longer a rarely to find on a hotel bed s sign asking the guest to reuse his/her towel or to accept having sheets changed once every three days rather than once a day, many people still wonder if tourism is an environmentally friendly industry. Due to past mistakes the public often is cynical about tourism and it is not unusual to hear people wondering out loud if the desire to change sheets once every three days is more about saving the hotel money then about saving the environment. There is no doubt that tourism, at least in the past, has not always been environmentally friendly.
 

Members of the Calaveras Bike Club presented special checks to the American Cancer Society, Community Action of the Coastal Bend Meals of Wheels and the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to JWC Commissioner Ventura Garcia and the Alice Chamber of Commerce.
