A BRIEF HISTORY OF GOSPEL MUSIC AND
THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

     Join the Luster All African American Heritage Museum when it presents "A Brief History of Gospel Music and the African American Experience," an educational and musical program, featuring Bishop Horace Riley and Minister Barbara Riley, the Praise Team of Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church, on Monday, June 20 at 6:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Bartow Public Library, 2150 S. Broadway Ave..      Seating is limited. The program will begin with a short introduction to the history of Gospel music and be rounded off with a musical performance by Bioshop Horace Riley and Minister Babara Riley, who comprise the Praise Team at Mount Olive Freewill baptist Church, Bartow. The program will consist of a selection of Gospel music that exemplifies the various styles of the genre over time.

BARTOW REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER AND WINTER HAVEN HOSPITAL
NAME VICE PRESIDENT OF PHYSICIAN SERVICES

Bartow Regional Medical Center and Winter Haven Hospital announce the appointment of Khurram Kamran, MD, MMM, CPE, SFHM as the vice president of physician services. Dr. Kamran comes from Toledo, Ohio, where he served as the senior physician executive within the ProMedica Health System for the past five years. Prior to serving ProMedica, he managed a hospitalist group that oversaw 14 practices in Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and Kentucky.“We look forward to having Dr. Kamran  engage with our medical staffs to promote quality assurance and patient care advancements,” said Winter Haven Hospital President Steve Nierman. “His past experiences with hospitalists and community-centered hospitals in a system will greatly benefit Winter Haven Hospital and Winter Haven Women’s Hospital.” Bartow president, Phil Minden, adds, “We are excited to have Dr. Kamran join our leadership team. His proven track record will be valuable to Bartow Regional.” Dr. Kamran received his Medical Degree from Khyber Medical University in Pakistan, and a Master’s of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a certified physician executive and a senior fellow of hospital medicine. He holds state medical licensing in Ohio, Michigan and Florida. While in Ohio, he served as a board member on the Jobst Vascular Advisory Council deciding areas of opportunity for community service by the Jobst Vascular Institute. He also served on the board for the Dayton Mercy Society that provided faith-based medical community service; and conducts missionary work in Pakistan by providing medical supplies and services. “I look forward to meeting the members of the medical staffs, and listening to their concerns, challenges and successes,” said Dr. Kamran. “I have an open door policy and will focus on quality and safety – always keeping the patient’s care in the center of every decision.” Dr. Kamran’s wife and three school-aged children will join him in his move to Florida. He starts on June 13.

WATSON CLINIC WELCOMES NEW OPTOMETRIST
Watson Clinic is pleased to introduce Yuliya Faynberg, OD to their department of optometry. Dr. Faynberg is a highly skilled and licensed optometrist who will provide a host of services related to eye health, including routine eye examinations, eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions, the diagnosis of glaucoma and cataracts, and alternative treatments for eye disorders. Dr. Faynberg received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA.She completed her residency in Cornea, External Ocular Disease and Refractive Surgery at Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton, PA. MONTHLY FRIDAY FEST JUNE 17 TO KICK OFF JUNETEENTH WITH
“ON THE AVENUE”    
     

Bartow’s next monthly Friday Fest to be held on Friday, June 17, from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M., along East Main Street and Central Avenue in downtown Bartow, will kick off Bartow’s annual Juneteenth celebration.  This street party, co-sponsored by Handy Can Sanitation Services, PalletOne, and Sunbelt Forest Products, will feature live music by “On the Avenue” as well as activities for the children. Food and drink will be available for purchase from vendors on the street and from the downtown restaurants. There will also be an open car cruise-in. Friday Fest is held on the third Friday of every month and is hosted by Main Street Bartow, Inc., Bartow’s Community Redevelopment Agency, the City of Bartow, and Kelley Buick GMC.  For more information, call 863-519-0508.
 


SCOTT GARDNER NAMED VP/COMMERCIAL LENDING
FOR BANK OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

Effective immediately, Scott Gardner will assume the role of Vice President / Commercial Lending for Bank of Central Florida. Gardner has been with the bank since 2011, during his tenure Scott has provided support to both the commercial lending and credit teams over the past five years. Gardner began his banking career at World Omni Financial Corporation in Fort Lauderdale in 1993, and continued with First Union in Charlotte, NC in 1996.  He returned to his hometown of Lakeland in 2003 as a commercial banker with SunTrust, and later with MIDFLORIDA Credit Union.  He is a graduate of Leadership Lakeland Class 24, past-president of Explorations V Children’s Museum, and past-president of Kiwanis Club of Lakeland.  He currently serves as a board member of Noah’s Ark of Central Florida, and a board member of Barney’s Pumps, Inc.  Mr. Gardner graduated from the University of Florida with a double major in Finance and Marketing. JULY 4th BARTOW ADULT CONCERT BAND SONGS LISTED
The Bartow Adult Concert Band will present its July 4th Concert on Sunday, July 4,2016 with a program titled:  “Let Freedom Ring”. This one-hour FREE concert will be held inside the Bartow Civic Center (2250 S. Floral Avenue) beginning at 2:30 P.M.  Conductor of the band for the July 4th Concert will be Mr. Jeff Cayer, Director of Bands at Southwest Middle School in Lakeland
