PRESIDENT'S CORNER: Polk County Day

Our award-winning Polk County Legislative Day in Tallahassee offers a unique opportunity to put Polk County and its legislative initiatives/concerns on State Legislator's radar screens.  Further, it allows LOCAL elected officials, area business leaders, other local governments and other interested constituents an opportunity to actively participate in the legislative process – something they might not otherwise do.

An added bonus is that our Polk County legislative delegation benefits because their colleagues get to know Polk County, first hand, and can put the faces of real people with the "spot on the map."  It also strengthens their position in pursuing Polk's legislative goals, because Polk's local elected officials and community leaders have shown they are active participants in the process.  Even though our 8-member delegation is a star-studded team with many members in key leadership roles, there are 152 other legislators who cast votes.  It's for this reason that we need to expand Polk's influence beyond our eight members.

The event is intended to reach, to the greatest extent possible, the Governor and his Cabinet:  State Senators and Representatives; Legislative Aides and private/public sector lobbyists (with whom we often team up to pursue similar legislative agendas (in the political world of Tallahassee….there's definitely safety in numbers!)

Event Goals:
    • Strengthen Polk County's voice in the political process.
    • Expand Polk's presence in the State Capitol.
    • Provide information on legislative issues that may impact local government's service
        delivery ability.
    • Introduce legislators (beyond our delegation) to the people of Polk County, Polk's                     rich heritage, the natural beauty that exists within its boundaries, its economy and
        unique challenges.
    • Provide a venue/vehicle for relationship-building between county government, city  governments, business and other leaders, chambers of commerce and legislators.
    • Meet the overall goals of event partners (contributing organizations and individuals).

I'll be there, and hope to see many Bartow residents at this great event!
