MADRID'S MUSINGS

Larry Madrid, Chamber president

Much of the success of community projects and programs are due to the Chamber volunteers, members and its staff. Jeff, Virginia, Linda and Vanessa are all passionate about their roles at the Chamber and are always willing to go above and beyond for our members. We are fortunate to have them - they each possess unique talents that help make our Chamber special. Thanks guys, and keep up the good work.

Leadership Bartow is back in full swing after having the summer off. Class XIV will attend its second-year retreat at the Clearwater Marriott. Under the direction of facilitator Nancy Lemon, the group will complete a jam-packed session on leadership training and development. Much thanks to Mosaic for sponsoring the event for the Leadership Bartow program.

And, speaking of Leadership Bartow, if you or one of your employees would like a place in the next Leadership class, make sure to submit the name to Jeff Clark. As a matter of fact, there is already a list for the next class that has quite a few names on it. Give the Chamber a call if you are interested in this excellent program. The Bartow Leadership program is considered by many to be one of the best in the county!

Remember to call Linda Holcomb if you are interested in playing in the Chamber Golf Scramble scheduled for October 7, 2011. This is a fun event and there are still sponsorships available, so call or email Linda today (linda@bartowchamber.com). These sponsorships will help the Chamber facilitate many of its economic development programs.

We are also looking forward to the Committee of 100’s Champion Cup Awards on September 29, 2011, at the Peace River Country Club. Last year, Rob Kincart and his team at A-C-T Environmental and Infrastructure, took home the big prize - Business of the Year! Who will be the winner this year? At presstime, there were only a few individual tickets left, and it’s sure to be a sell out. Our keynote speaker is Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam. Make sure your tickets are reserved for this wonderful evening.

Be sure not to miss Barow’s Community Relations Committee’s Diversity Luncheon. Held at the Bartow Civic Center, this year’s speaker is Malik Ali, president of the Florida Minority Supplier Development Council. Each year the committee gives the CC Corbett Diversity Award to an individual and to a business or organization. Will it be your company? Tickets are on sale at the Chamber.

There are many more events and projects already on the Chamber’s calendar for Bartow - too many to list here. I just want to say it’s going to be a very busy last part of 2011. Stay tuned and attend your Chamber’s events. Networking really pays off, and the Chamber provides excellent opportunities for you to do so. Until next month, “Hasta la vista!”
