20 ARTISTS WILL BE AT CHALK WALK!

As far back as mankind's history, there have been paintings on cave walls and even floors of caves.

But the fascinating art form of using impermanent materials and semi-permanent materials such as chalk, supposedly were made popular by Italian artists from the 16th Century, historically first rendering “Madonna” as the first pavement performance art.

A new generation of street painters sprang up, and they traveled from city to city, and festival to festival, creating chalk artwork that would last no longer than the handful of days required to create them.

Today, 20 professional performance chalk artists scheduled for Bartow’s Chalk Walk, (and some who are coming from as far away as Georgia, Virginia, Indiana and Mexico), will be  extended hometown hospitality as they make use of Bartow's sidewalks as canvases.

"Our sidewalks at Fort Blount will come alive with color, energy and vibrancy with this unique art form that is becoming very popular for artists, and art lovers alike," said Trish Pfeiffer, one of the organizers for the two-day event. Ms. Pfeiffer has worked with Main Street Bartow, Inc. to bring the Chalk Walk to downtown Bartow.

Swan Brewing of Lakeland will be contributing to the “Beer Garden” to refresh the crowds with their popular craft brews. “Great beer deserves an enjoyable atmosphere,” Ms. Pfeiffer said. “We look forward to Swan Brewing enhancing our creative atmosphere here at the Bartow Chalk Walk.”

Local restaurants and downtown retail stores, food trucks, and live entertainment are offered throughout the weekend along with other artisans, makers and home-grown enthusiasts who will be on hand to soak in the artsy vibe with their wares for sale for both days. If you come on Saturday you will want to make sure you come back on Sunday to see the final art pieces that have taken just two days to complete.

This will be a major Instagram and selfie moment to share.
