DIVERSITY AWARDS AND LUNCHEON


 “There are daily reminders to us all of how important this issue still is in America, and that promoting racial and ethnic equality and ending racism and discrimination requires awareness, commitment, and action,” said Gloria Washington, Co-chairman of the CRC. “This is an opportunity for Bartow to stand up and be counted in an ongoing effort to make sure our community fosters racial and ethnic equality and harmony.”
 
This year’s theme, which will be presented by keynote speaker Katrina Lunsford, is, “Walking the Talk Is The Way Of Diversity.”
 
Katrina Lunsford received her B.S. Degree in Finance from Troy University. Katrina currently serves as Pastor of Cornerstone True Fellowship, Lake Wales. Her career began at Barnett Bank in 1983, where she grew into Commercial Mgmt. Leadership position and transitioned to SouthTrust Bank, where she obtained Sr. Management position, and is currently with Fifth Third Bank as VP, Middle Market Relationship Manager. Katrina’s community service includes: member of Omicron Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc; Early Learning Coalition of Polk County -- Chair Elect (Gubernatorial Appointment), CareerSource Polk County – Board Chair, Volunteer in Service to the Elderly (V.I.S.T.E.) Advisory Board, and Lighthouse Ministries Advisory Board. She has received various awards including Girls Inc She Knows Where She Going, Lakeland Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Diversity, 100 National Coalition of Black Women Momentum Award, and the Lakeland Chapter of NAACP Unsung Hero Award. Katrina is a graduate of Central Florida Leadership and aalso is a graduate of Leadership Lakeland 8t and was the Chair of Leadership Lakeland 14. 
 
The annual Diversity Award will be presented to a business or organization and an individual at the luncheon. Nominations are being accepted for the award, click here for an online nomination. Nominations are being accepted for the award through September 4, 2015.
 

This year, a book titled, LETTERS ACROSS THE DIVIDE, a provocative and honest book written by a black minister and a white businessman who candidly discuss the obstacles, stereotypes, and sins that inhibit interracial reconciliation, will be available at the luncheon for $5 ($15 value). Friends of the Library is underwriting most of the cost for the book, which will be used in a community-wide discussion in October.
