FROM THE PRESIDENT:

VISTE has enhanced the quality of life for more than 12,500 seniors since 1983. Some of the services provided include transportation to medical appointments, supplemental groceries, housekeeping assistance and much more.
VISTE served approximately 4,000 clients last year. This includes providing 23,000 hot meals being delivered last year. In Bartow, we have 250 clients that are delivered hot meals twice a week.
During the first week of every month, clients come to VISTE and receive a box of food, meat, vegetables and bread in order to supplement their needs for the month. During the third week of every month, volunteers deliver the same commodities to clients unable to drive. In total, 1,500 households are provided with supplemental groceries each month.
VISTE provides Phone Pals for approximately 300 home-bound clients. Volunteers call these seniors every week just to say hello. In many cases, this is the only contact that these people have, and I believe it certainly makes their day and gives them comfort.
And then there is VISTEball. What a fun night it is!
The ball in Visteball is all about a golf ball. VISTEball is a big playground for adults to play golf games, win prizes, eat wonderful food and of course, there are adult beverages. There are also silent and live auctions. VISTEball is always held on the first Saturday in February. The next one will be held on February 6, 2016.
There is so much more that VISTE does for the seniors in our community that I could go on and on. I truly believe in my heart that our seniors are living longer and having better quality of lives because of the service that Viste offers. The goal is to have seniors age in place, in their own homes. Because of Viste that is happening.
VISTE has a small, dedicated staff being led by President Steve Bissonnette; and more than 1,000 volunteers engage in various  activities throughout the year. If you know someone who is in need of the services of VISTE or would like to volunteer, please call 863-284-0828. I know this worthy organization is in need of volunteers to deliver hot meals and commodities in Bartow.
Until next week,
Sharon Casey
