STACY BUTTERFIELD EARNS TOP FINANCIAL HONORS
Polk County Clerk of Courts & Comptroller Stacy Butterfield recently earned two top honors in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the national authority on best practices in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
At the Polk County Board of County Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Seth McKeel presented the GFOA awards to Clerk Butterfield for the fiscal year 2013-2014 reports. McKeel represented District 40 in the Florida House of Representatives and also served as the chair of the House Appropriations Committee.
As the county comptroller, the clerk produces the county’s audited financial statements, as required by statute. These reports include information on all five constitutional offices and the board of county commissioners.
For the 35th consecutive year, the clerk earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its preparation of this report, known as the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
In addition, the clerk also produces a Popular Annual Financial Report, which is a condensed summary of the spreadsheet-heavy comprehensive report. For the 14th consecutive year, the clerk earned the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Reporting. The popular annual report is not required by statute, but the clerk’s office produces it to provide residents with a concise summary of how their county resources are used.
These awards are the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting.  Both are prestigious national awards that recognize conformance with the highest standards for preparation of financial reports.
Financial reports are available for public view on the clerk’s website at www.polkcountyclerk.net.
