POLK COUNTY MOBILITY DAY COMING

Polk County Mobility Day Recognizes
Super Commuter Heroes, Melony Bell

Polk County Mobility Day on Tuesday, Oct. 30, recognized those individuals who "go the extra mile," by riding bikes to work, or carpooling to work.

Former County Commissioner Melony Bell was also recognized for her championing hiking, cycling, Fort Fraser Trail, and Panther Point Trail.

Speakers included leaders from FDOT, Polk TPO, Commuter Services Christine Diaz (who also organized the event), County Commissioner Todd Dantzler and Bartow Mayor Leo Longworth.

Bartow Economic Development Council, City of Bartow and the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce took part in the event, with the Chamber and BEDC facilitating a costume contest. Main Street Bartow and the Polk County History Center provided interesting facts for the walking tour of Bartow.

Food sponsors A-C-T Environmental and Infrastructure and Kelley Buick GMC provided hot dogs, sodas, water and cookies.

Polk County Citrus Connection, Bartow Police Department and Polk County Sheriffs Office provided demonstrations and escorts for the bike ride and Bartow hike.

For information about how to become involved in next year's event, contact Ms. Diaz at 1-866-585-RIDE.
