Blazing Into The Future While Embracing The Past

Partnership with Vail Chamber of Commerce

Debi Kilpatrick

A recent phone call and a series of emails from the Steve Roseman, of The Vail Voice, has resulted in a working relationship with the Benson/San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Vail Chamber of Commerce. After speaking to Michelle at the Vail Chamber, she and I have decided it is in our best interest as Chambers to work together. We are not merging, by any means, but we will start putting up their events and they will put up ours. We are both bedroom communities to Sierra Vista and Tucson, we are not that far apart, and our interests are in the same areas. Steve also extended an invitation to the Benson Chamber welcoming any submissions we would like to make in their newspaper. Our communities can both benefit by working together. Many residents of both communities would rather not deal with the bigger cities, if at all possible. Promoting what we have available in our communities to each other's residents, is a win-win.

Benson's New Mural

Debi Kilpatrick

Lisa Hill with Benson Clean and Beautiful has announced the newest mural slated to begin! It is a copy of the original Butterfield Overland Mail Stage, pulled by 6 mules. It will be painted on the East wall of the Cochise County Justice Building in Benson. Doug Quarles, our mural artist, has already started priming the wall, and will  start the painting soon. Judge Joe Knoblock is a key player in making this the newest edition of Benson's murals, a reality. Thank you Judge Knoblock!

Spotlight Businesses of the Month

Debi Kilpatrick

Our recent introduction of the Spotlight Business of the Month has been a success! Starting off with the 40th Anniversary of G&F Pizza in March, Mi Casa Restaurant in April, and Dillon's Corral in May. Tom and Mark Adams expressed their appreciation to the Chamber for putting this on. It was a resounding success for G&F, and we couldnt have been happier! Andy and Santa were very pleased with the Spotlight being on Mi Casa, and now it is on to Dillon's Corral! Remember to Shop Local and keep our dollars where it will benefit Benson the most - with Benson!

Criteria for Spotlight Businesses

Debi Kilpatrick

President Lupe and I have been asked "What is your criteria for picking a Spotlight Business?" Well, it pretty much boils down to this: We look at a businesses' community involvement, good business ethics and customer service, happy employees, customer satisfaction, and in some cases - longevity of the business in Benson. We like to recognize our local entrepreneurs, who are doing a great job. But we also recognize those who are good and needed businesses, but who also make an effort to reinvest back into our community. Basically, be an ethical business who appreciates where you live! That isn't too hard! We don't pick in any real order, as we just started this. We either have suggestions made to us, or we just decide on our own. But if you are an ethical business, who appreciates your employees and community, you will be on the list!
