NORMAL –Withers Broadcasting and Dana Communications President and CEO Dana Withers was honored with this year’s IBA/Vincent T. Wasilewski Broadcaster of the Year award during the June 5 th Chairman’s Dinner at the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s annual summer conference in Normal. The honor is voted on by the Illinois Broadcasters Association state board of directors and bestowed upon one individual each year.

Withers Broadcasting and Dana Communications earned eleven nominations and brought home five first place Silver Dome awards from the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s Silver Dome Awards Gala June 6 th at the Marriott Hotel in Normal. Nominations and awards are determined by member broadcasters of another state broadcasters association each year and are narrowed down to the top three in each category, state-wide by market size consisting of small, medium, and Chicago markets.

WQRL was awarded two first place Silver Dome Awards, and had an additional three top three nominations in various categories in the Illinois Small Market Radio division.
Best Radio Play-by-Play Small Market Radio went to WQRL General Manager Chris Hugo for Q106:
  • Rangerettes Comeback Over Herrin.
  • Best Radio Series or Documentary Small Market Radio went to WQRL Operations Manager Ashley Hugo for Q106 “EQlipse” Radio.
  • WQRL News Director Barry Wright also placed in the top three in the Best Radio Series or Documentary Small Market Radio category for his coverage of the Franklin County Courthouse Referendum, and Danny Czerwinski placed in the top three in the Best Sportscaster Small Market Radio category, and Best Play-by-Play Small Market Radio category.
  • Withers Broadcasting sister stations WMIX, WRXX and WVZA also earned Silver Dome Awards and additional nominations.
WMIX was awarded Best Radio Station Use of New Media Small Market Radio credited to Avery Barton and Chris Hugo for WMIX Extras.

WMIX air talent, Sandi, placed in the top three for Best Radio Station Personality Small Market Radio.

WRXX was awarded a Silver Dome Award for Best Radio Station Self-Promotion credited to air talent Matt James for X95: The Wake Up Call.

WVZA was awarded Best Radio Humorous Commercial for Medium Market Radio credited to Gavin Murphy and Wes Bennett for WVZA: Adams Shoe Store The Holidays.
Gavin Murphy also had an additional top three nomination for WVZA.
