What is this Diagnosis?
"What is this Diagnosis?  Dementia, Alzheimer's & Depression will be presented Friday, October 24 at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center of Boulder City.
The diagnosis is difficult.  What is the next step?  Where do I turn?  Where are the resources and the support for me, my family and my care givers?  This presentation will focus on what comes next after your doctor uses these words to describe what is happening to you or a loved one.  Presentation by support organizations, those who are managing their diagnosis and those who have walked through it with loved ones.

Call 702-293-3320 to register today or sign up at the front desk at the Senior Center.

This is another in a series of programs offered monthly by the Senior Center of Boulder City in collaboration with Boulder City Hospital through a grant from the Nevada Community Prevention Coalition (NCPC).

PurpleLight2014

PurpleLight is a national gathering of over 80 communities across the United States that honors pancreatic cancer survivors, inspires loved ones fighting the disease and remembers those who have lost the fight. It is a wonderful opportunity for family and friends of those touched by pancreatic cancer to come together to gain both comfort and encouragement. This event is free and open to the public. By registering you’ll have the opportunity to submit the name of a loved one you would like to honor in the name-reading ceremony. Participants will break open a purple glow stick as each name is announced. Registering will help guarantee that we have enough glow sticks to turn Las Vegas purple! Participants are encouraged to wear as much purple as possible.
Luminaries will be available again this year for a suggested donation of $5/Luminary. Please bring with you pictures, decorations and anything else you would like to use to help decorate your luminary.

Desert Research Institute Nevada Medal Dinner

Over the last 28 years, the Desert Research Institute (DRI) has honored individuals in science and engineering whose prominent research contributions have ranged from mapping the human genome and explaining protein folding to discovering ancient hydrothermal vents in the Galapagos and advancing our knowledge of archaeological discoveries across the globe. Each year science and engineering is celebrated statewide at DRI’s annual Nevada Medal Events.

The Nevada Medal is the highest scientific honor in the state. It is bestowed annually at formal dinner presentations in Las Vegas and Reno. This year,  Dr. Christopher McKay, a leading NASA Scientist, has been named the 2015 Nevada Medalist. In honor of the medal, he said:

“It is my privilege and honor to be named as the 28 DRI Nevada Medalist.  The search for life continues to lead us in directions no one thought possible. Collaboration with scientists around the globe and here in Nevada are bringing us closer to the fundamental question we face as a society: Is there life beyond Earth?”
-- Dr. Chris McKay

The 28th Annual DRI Nevada Medal Event

Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas will include a formal dinner and award ceremony, with a reception starting at 6pm.

Tickets and more information about the 2014 DRI Nevada Medal event are available online.
