The 9th annual Dam Short Film Festival will be held February 6-9, 2013, in Boulder City, Nevada and will screen over 120+ short films of varied genre, subject, and origin. Program blocks will include Drama, Comedy, Sci-Fi / Horror, Documentary, Animation, Student, Nevada Filmmaker, and Music Video so that all ages and interests will find the Festival a unique and entertaining cultural experience.
The Festival will be held at the historic Boulder Theatre. and will feature an Awards Gala. Additional events and services, such as a Filmmaker Reception and Film Market, will be held at the Boulder Dam Hotel. Tickets will be $6 and may be purchased at the door. 4-Day passes will also be available for $60.
A “short film,” according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, is any motion picture less than 40 minutes in length. These films cover every genre and style and are made by students, hobbyists, independent filmmakers and established directors alike. They are made for fun, as learning experiences, as calling cards, and as fundraisers for more ambitious projects.
There are hundreds upon hundreds of short films made every year, yet the public only sees a small percentage. The average film festival receives between 500 and 2000 submissions, yet rarely screens more than 5 percent of these. Even worse, films that do make it to the festival circuit only have a limited “lifespan,” and disappear from view within a year of two.
The Dam Short Film Society aims to remedy this, at least in part. The annual Dam Short Film Festival will screen 120+ unique shorts, from all years and of numerous styles and subjects matters.
