Lend A Hand Needs You!

Dear Friends of Lend A Hand,

Lend A Hand (LAH) is having training for new volunteers on June 18th at the LAH office at 400 Utah. It will be 6 hours long and start at 9am. There will be a short break for lunch.

As you know, LAH is a non-profit organization of staff and volunteers who help clients remain in their own homes by providing companionship, respite for caregivers and transportation for appointments and errands; and lending equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.

Call the LAH office to sign up for the training or if you have questions or suggestions.

294-2363

If the timing of the training session on the 18th is not convenient - LAH will schedule another training session for you.

Volunteers pick the hours, days and times they can work. If they are busy when called or leaving on an extended vacation, like the summer, LAH finds a replacement till they return.
A major LAH service is driving clients to medical and other appointments -- some in Boulder City, but many in Las Vegas. Volunteers provide companionship and will escort and assist clients as needed. Volunteers donate their time and drive their own cars. Mileage reimbursement is available.

In 2008 a new program began called In Home Services for individuals who would like services such as respite for caregivers, companionship, light meals/light housekeeping, opening mail, arranging appointments and resources, simple home repair and upkeep, walking and exercise, pet walking, doing laundry, changing bed linens and making beds. LAH can use volunteers to help with these services.

As you can tell, a wide variety of skills and interests are needed to serve LAH hundreds of clients. LAH needs drivers, in-home assistants, office workers, board of trustee members. LAH respects volunteers' need for flexible scheduling and appreciate whatever time they can give.

Their web site is at http://lendahand.embarqspace.com/ if you wish to learn more about LAH. Feel free to tell your friends, relatives, and neighbors to call the LAH office if they are interested in helping this wonderful program in town. Hopefully I got all my facts about the training right - if not - the LAH staff will know the latest when called to sign up for the training on the 18th.

Lend A Hand helps clients an average of 320 hours each month. If they have more volunteers - they can more easily fill client requests. Every summer Snowbirds leave town and LAH can use more help. You'll meet some wonderful people if you become a volunteer.

I think Lend A Hand could use a laptop computer in the office. If any of you are upgrading and have a laptop a staff member could use in their daily work, it would probably be appreciated.
