Chamber December 2018 Month in Review

our monthly Best Dam Wine Walk. For the first time in four years, January kicked off the season and what a Wine Walk it was! With over 315 attendees, it was the biggest turnout of participants in Wine Walk history. With a theme of Vegas Golden Knights, participants sported VGK gear and enjoyed checking in at over 25 merchants. There are already people asking about the next one, February 9th with a Pajama Party theme. The feedback from participants has been overwhelming, with positive messages coming into our Facebook page daily. Additionally, there were more NEW participants this time around than any other walk. The influx of new people to events increases the visibility of our local businesses and owners, increasing the number of dollars that each person spends while they are in town. The Wine Walk happens eight out of twelve months, with a hiatus during the hot summer months of May through August. If you haven’t been to one yet, visit the Chamber website or Best Dam Wine Walk page and pick out one (or all!) of the rest of the season! Our local business owners can’t wait for you to come visit!

The Chamber had a couple of media opportunities in January which included a spot on the Fox 5 More Show and a partnership with Channel 8. The Channel 8 video is being produced to highlight different spots around town so keep a watch and see which of your favorite places were highlighted! The Fox 5 More Show is a daily entertainment/news show where we had a chance to highlight the January Wine Walk. These are typical partnerships that the Chamber engages in to help drive more tourism from the valley and beyond into our corridor.

Our Monthly Mixer was at Rail Explorers and it was a ton of fun! Many enjoyed free rides on the rail bikes and a for the first time, Rail Explorers announced a 15% discount for Nevada Residents. They also proved to be an amazing community partner as they announced that during the government shutdown that all furloughed government employees and contractors can ride the rails for free. If you haven’t checked them out, head over to the Nevada State Railroad Museum or their website (www.railexplorers.net/locations) for details.

The Chamber celebrated some new investor businesses this month as well. Three Ribbon Cuttings welcomed BC Magazine, Rock N Beauty, and Distressed and Disorderly. Matt & Michelle Gemmill purchased BC Magazine some time ago and has done a great job at consistently putting out a quality magazine highlighting our community. Rock N Beauty, a Rockabilly, vintage inspired full service salon, is located at 1000 Buchanan Blvd #2 and their Ribbon Cutting was mixed with a birthday celebration for the owner Alesia Martin. Distressed and Disorderly is located at 1400 Wyoming St Set 3 and is our newest “Women of Wyoming” business. Kari Livingston is excited to showcase her boutique specializing in home decor, painted furniture, custom built barn wood furniture, classes and unique items by local artisans.
