MBL Tournament | Here Turkey, Turkey,Turkey
The Emergency Aide of Boulder City is in desperate need of more turkeys to fulfill the requests for meals this Thanksgiving. Please consider dropping off a turkey at their office in the Department of Water and Power Building on the corner of Nevada Way and Wyoming Street. They are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm. Also, as a great community partner, Albertson’s has set up a special program to help our locals. They are currently running a “Buy One, Get One Free” sale on turkeys. You can purchase your family turkey and then let the clerk know that you’d like the free one to go to Emergency Aide. The donated turkeys will then be picked up daily by the great volunteers at Emergency Aide. Big thanks to Albertson’s for making it so easy to give. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Shred Day boy did we...tear it up this year!
Thanks to all for making this the most successful Shred Day in our history of the event. Thank you also to all those that donated to the BCHS Scholarship Fund. We raised over $350 to be used for scholarships that will be awarded to the graduates of 2013. We’d like to thank our sponsors…we would never be able to pull this event off without them: American Shredding for the trucks and staff that helped us shred hundreds of boxes of files and to Albertson’s for the use of the parking lot. Remember the Boulder Dam Credit Union holds their community shred day each April and the Chamber’s is each October.
Trunk OR Treat / Movie Night in the park
As one young Dracula said during the Trunk or Treat costume contest, “Are we going to do this again next year?” Our response, “of course!” With another record breaking year on attendance and participation, the Chamber expanded its Movies in the Park series to include an all day event. The Fall Community Yard Sale in the morning and the Trunk or Treat kicked off the evening events that included the best decorated trunk contest and the annual costume contest. With the success of the event increasing each year, we’ve been asked to consider a pumpkin carving contest and maybe even a pumpkin pie eating contest. The movie this year was Monster House and pleased the whole viewing audience whether they were on blankets up front or in their spooky decorated vehicles on the grass. It was another family-fun night in Boulder City. YES Dracula, there is a Santa Claus, and his name is Dr. Eldon Clothier. This event would not have been possible without the generous donation from Dr. Clothier. We want to give him and his family a very special thanks. We also had so many compliments on his white-chocolate popcorn. 800 bags seemed to disappear like ghosts! He gave out the awards for the best decorated trunks…it was amazing how creative our residents are! More thanks go out to our sponsors that each year make this event memorable. Kendra Wright at American Family Insurance sponsored the costume contest, Geoff Baughman of Farmer’s Insurance sponsored the free bounce houses, Bret and Priscilla Runion of Desert Sun Realty sponsored the free hot chocolate, Pete Iovino of Albertson’s sponsored the hot apple cider and a ton of candy, Brina Marcus of Bootleg Canyon Flightlinez that provided the best volunteers, Boulder City Disposal did a great job of helping us keep the park clean and we also need to thank the City of Boulder City staff for all they do to help us put on events in the park. We asked audience members to give us their thoughts on a drive-in movie each month. The feedback was overwhelming and the Board of Directors will be considering a monthly Movies-in-the-Park to be added to all the great events that Chamber already produces year round. Stay-tuned on that possible announcement. Our witches hat off to all those that attended or assisted. We had a spooktacular time! DON'T FORGET THE SANTA TRAIN
