Altrusa International of Branch County Offers Scholarships to Nontraditional Students

March 10, 2017, Branch County – Altrusa International of Branch County now has applications available for its annual scholarship award. Open to non-traditional students who are pursuing post-secondary education and are Branch County residents, the scholarship is intended to help recipients get a fresh start, make a career change, or advance in their field.  While need and career/educational goals play a part in the selection, community service remains an important criteria for the scholarship.

Applications are available at Branch District Library, Kellogg Community College, Baker College Coldwater, or on line. For applications or to learn more about Altrusa International of Branch County, please visit our website: www.AltrusaBranchCounty.com. Interested students can also request an application by emailing altrusabranchcounty@gmail.com.

The selected recipient(s) will receive a minimum of a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded at the May 3 meeting of the club.  The deadline for applications is Monday, April 10, 2017. Only fully completed applications including a one to two page narrative will be considered. Funds for the scholarships come from two major club fund raisers, the Altrusa Golf Scramble held the Friday before Memorial Day and Altrusa’s Diamond Raffle, and the Louise Wallace Scholarship Fund. The club established the Branch County Community Foundation fund in memory of the late club president.

Altrusa International of Branch County is a local service club that provides community service, develops leadership, and fosters and encourages fellowship through dedicated volunteers. The Branch County club supports many community organizations such as Teen Share, the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Branch County Literacy Council, Tibbits Opera Foundation, Girls on the Run, the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, and others. In addition, Altrusa has several hands-on projects including Happy Feet, which provides shoes, boots, and socks to children in area schools, and Altrusa Teen Share providing housing for homeless teens.
