Energy is High at the Chamber

In 2009 the Chamber adopted a 3-Year Plan geared toward a complete re-thinking and re-organization of our approach to Tourism, Marketing, Business Development and Community Outreach. The first year of the plan included the addition of an Executive Director to lead the daily course of change. This forward thinking and the hard work of many volunteers yielded an exciting list of successes in 2009.  Included in these were:

A complete marketing plan for the Lake Almanor Basin
Restructuring of the Chamber Web Site
Record attendance at the Mile Hi 100 and 4th of July events
September's Outdoor Writers Conference of California held in Lake Almanor
The Addition of a Chamber Fall Dinner
Formation of the Lake Almanor Cultural & Recreational Council
Successful expansion of Second Fridays: An Almanor Basin Street Party
The addition of Chamber Community Partners and Sponsors
Renovation of the Chamber’s Visitor’s Center and conference room facilities.
Completion of a Chester Streetscape Design Plan
Year One of the Main Street Flower Box Project
Collaboration with Alliance for WorkForce Development in the Summer Youth Jobs program and Main St. clean-up project

The challenges in looking forward to 2010 are to maintain this forward momentum amidst the uncertain economic climate.  Ingenuity and a spirit of cooperation are needed in order to be sustainable and move forward.

Among the changes made to sustain the Chamber this year was the temporary suspension of the Chamber Executive Director position created in 2009.  Susan Bryner, who had filled the position in 2009, stepped down and accepted a nomination to an open seat on the Board.

Bryner will be joining forces with Executive Committee members Doug Self, Robin Schumacher and Kerry Friedrichs as Vice President.  She will continue her commitment to the  Chamber's 3-Year Plan along with Directors Marlene Cummings, Linda Gillam, Rob Hart, Arlie Holland, Joanie Kielty, Dan Mountsier, Mary Maumoynier, Garn Pringle, Miriam Rosenthal, Linda Rouland and Jay Sabelman.

The 2010  line-up of Chamber sponsored events and projects will include a Spring Membership Luncheon, Second Fridays: An Almanor Basin Street Party, June’s Mile High 100 Bike Ride, the 4th of July Parade and Fireworks Spectacular, September’s Street Rod Extravaganza , November's Membership Dinner, monthly Chamber Mixers, Visitors Center operations and Year 2 of the Flower Box Program.
