Redefining Community

Susan Bryner, Chamber President

we have a tremendous opportunity here.

The word community has many definitions and purposes. For us here, community is defined by location: Lake Almanor, Chester. For some time, and most especially now, I have seen something new and wonderful emerging in our community. I can’t put my finger on it yet, but it has the feel of something good and great coming together.

A strong community engenders a sense of fellowship amongst its members. This feeling has been getting stronger. A strong community also has an internal purpose. In this sense it would be to “take care of each other”. This spirit is growing here.

But a strong community can also have an external purpose, a collective goal. That is what I hope will emerge. I hope we will emerge from this crisis with a strong sense of purpose for our community. What that will be is up to us.

For now I am dreaming that we can take the faith, perseverance, ingenuity, humor, and commitment to something greater than ourselves and turn it into a common goal that will take the quality of life in our community to a higher level and, maybe even make us a model for others.
