The Chamber, Feather River College & AWFD Are Working Together

As a Chamber we are driven by volunteers, funded by our members, sponsors and community partners and powered by the vision of a sustainable community, one that works together toward common, beneficial and sustainable outcomes.

As part of this vision, we are proud of our newly formed collaborative effort with Feather River College and the Alliance for Workforce Development to educate, promote and increase green practices in our business community through a “Going Green Commitment” program. This program will enhance our community awareness and efforts toward environmental stewardship and will provide a key component to the Chamber’s economic development program.

Chamber businesses will have the opportunity to participate in the “Going Green” program by identifying current green practices, committing to furthering green efforts, and publicizing their progress and commitment through the Chamber sponsored websites called Traffic Catcher Sites (TCS). In partnership with Feather River College SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise), four student interns will assist the Chamber in marketing the program and will work directly with businesses to optimize TCS’s, train business owners in future web management and social media, increase green practices and enter businesses in a Lake Almanor Basin asset map. The project will begin June 7th. For more information about the project and how you can benefit from this exciting collaborative effort, contact the Chamber office 258-2426.

SIFE is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. An annual series of regional and national competitions provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. National champion teams advance to the prestigious SIFE World Cup. In addition to the community aspect of the program, SIFE’s leadership and career initiatives create meaningful opportunities for learning and exchange among the participants as well as the placement of students and alumni with companies in search of emerging talent.
