Community Connections

One hour of service to the Chamber with a project or event would equal one time credit with Community Connections - all services being equal.    This time credit could in turn be used for other available services through Community Connections ranging from transportation to appointments, babysitting, house-sitting, garden watering, and pet sitting to food preservation instruction, tutoring, and assistance with household chores.

Last year over 65 members of Community Connections exchanged 1400 hours of service by helping each other and serving their community. Right now there are over 180 different services available.

The Chamber of Commerce chose to become a Sponsor of Community Connections because working together made sense. The Chamber sponsors many community events and activities including; 4th of July Parade, Fireworks Spectacular, Century 100 Mile High Bike Ride, Street Rod Extravaganza, Second Fridays and more. In doing so, the Chamber relies heavily on volunteers from the community to make these events happen. It makes sense to have volunteers who are already giving of their time have the opportunity to participate in Community Connections and earn time credits for their efforts.  In addition, it gives other members of the community opportunities for their talent and time they may otherwise not have known were available to them.

When agencies, businesses and service organizations partner together and provide opportunities for community members to get involved and make a difference, great things happen! People feel like they are doing what they can to help out and in return can get their needs met because their volunteer efforts are rewarded with time credits – no more volunteer burn-out!

Beginning October 19th all of the major television stations (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) have agreed to focus commercials and favorite program plots on the importance of volunteering and giving back in order to build healthier individuals and communities. Now is the perfect opportunity for us all to begin thinking about what we CAN do instead of waiting to see what might happen next.
