Release Date: Dec 23, 2015

CHESTER, Calif., December 23, 2015 –Lassen National  Forest's Almanor Ranger District will offer its annual guided snowshoe and cross-country ski tours this winter for the general public and school groups.  Trip leaders will address a variety of topics during the one- to two-hour programs, such as basic winter survival skills, environmental education, and local history.

The first two events are scheduled for Friday, January 8 and Friday, January 22. Tour destinations, which will vary depending on current snow conditions, include Morgan Summit, Locherman Canyon, Almanor Recreation Trail, McGowan Cross-Country Ski Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail.

"This is a great way to explore Lassen National Forest and enjoy the winter season," said Almanor District Acting Recreation Officer Stacy Kronner. "The tours are geared for beginners but can be strenuous in deep snow or fresh powder."

All programs require reservations. Participants must be at least eight years old, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are provided free of charge, but cross-country skiers must provide their own equipment.

For more Information or to register, contact Stacy Kronner at (530) 258-2141 or srkronner@fs.fed.us.

Lassen National Forest lies at the Crossroads of California, where the granite of the Sierra Nevada, the lava of the Cascades and the Modoc Plateau, and the sagebrush of the Great Basin meet. The Forest is managed for recreational access as well as timber and firewood, forage for livestock, water, minerals, and other natural resources.

Showcasing Lassen Gift Company

So many of the return vistors tell us it isn't a visit to Lake Almanor without a visit to Lassen Gift Company and Soda Fountian. It is truley something exceptional.

For January's memebrship spotlight, Lassen Gift Company was picked. Lassen Gift Comapany has a Facebok Page.

Historic Location

At Lassen Gift Company you will  find greeting cards, jewelry, glassware, games, toys, clothing (wearable art) and many other gift items reflecting the fine taste of owner, Sharon Henry. The Old Fashion Soda Fountain within the store is a holiday tradition for every family who visits Lake Almanor and is one of only a handful of fountains left in Northern California.

"This little bit of everything store, in business since 1946, houses an old-fashioned soda fountain framed with stained glass and curios. Pull up a stool for a banana split, milk shake, or sundae with friendly folks in this sleepy mountain town near Lake Almanor." Sunset Magazine

Highlands Ranch Resort became members this year with your Lake Almanor Area Chamber. We are so excited about their business and all they have to offer. They have first rate, 4 star dinning, year round. They offer Winter activities and tours and their lodging is beyond gorgeous and comfortable.
