Job Summary: Serves as chief executive officer. Recommends and participates in the formulation of new policies. Utilizes the Chamber’s existing policies and strategic plan as they have been approved by the Board of Directors to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the staff, programs and activities of the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce (Chamber). Is responsible to the Board of Directors of the Chamber for the administration of the Chamber Program of Work and budget. The Executive Director shall be empowered to handle the staffing of the organization within the parameters established by the budget. Shall maintain a good working relationship with the membership of the Chamber.

Job Skills & Qualifications: Leadership Skills Budget, Planning and Financial Reporting Relationship Management Volunteer Management Event Coordination Ability to manage, delegate and motivate staff, as well as mitigate under certain circumstances Excellent verbal and written communications Ability to communicate in diverse settings Ability to stay focused on objectives and projects with multiple distractions Understanding and capability of today’s online technology as it relates to websites, social media, and other online platforms Knowledge of marketing and selling techniques such as prospecting, strategic selling, presenting and closing is a plus BS/BA preferred in a field such as Business, Marketing or Communications Minimum of 5-10 years related experience preferred Experience in Association Management is a plus Duties, Responsibilities, and Authority: Finance: Shall compile and present the prospective annual budget to the finance committee no later than November 1st of the preceding year and shall present, when necessary, prospective mid‑year budget revisions no later than August 1st of the current fiscal year. The Executive Director shall ensure that all monthly performance reports and year‑end statements are prepared and presented to the Executive Committee within a reasonable time frame after the end of the period covered ‑ such time frame to be determined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director shall be responsible to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors for the management of the annual budget including 1) Management of daily finances including income and expenditures 2) Overseeing overall activities of committees and Board to ensure yearly program of work and goals of the Chamber are met. It shall be the Executive Director’s responsibility to spend no more than 110% of any category and no more than 100% of the total budget. Staff: Shall have authority for hiring, training, motivation, promotion and termination of staff within parameters established by the approved budget and with approval from Executive Committee. Shall obtain maximum utilization of staff by clearly defining their duties, establishing performance standards, conducting performance reviews and maintaining competitive salary structure. Directs and coordinates all activity of staff in the carrying out of their duties as assigned for all projects, programs, and major activities of the Chamber. Board: Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Serves as secretary and advisor to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and President. Prepares agendas, minutes, and meeting notices. Informs the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the condition of the Chamber and on other important factors influencing the board. Shall be responsible to provide staff support to the Board of Directors. Plans, formulates and recommends for the approval of the Board of Directors basic policies and programs which will further the objectives of the Chamber. Executes all decisions of the Board of Directors not specifically assigned for execution to another individual. Executes such contracts and commitments as may be authorized by the Board of Directors or established policies. Carries out such other general responsibilities as may be delegated by the Officers of the Board of Directors. Shall be a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee ex‑officio without the right to vote. Committees: Provides the liaison and staff support to committee chairs and committee members. Sees that committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. Community and Public Relations: Maintains and grows membership of the Chamber. Maintains relationships with other associations, industry, government, media, public service organizations, members and prospective members of the Chamber in conformity with the overall objectives and policies of the organization. Promotes interest and active participation in the Chamber’s activities on the part of the membership and reports activities of the Board and the Chamber through the various media outlets available and to the general public. Develops marketing materials, activities and programs to encourage new member recruitment.
