POSITION SUMMARY: Qualified RN who is responsible for all nursing care of patients in the operating room, recovery room, endoscopy, and for pre-operative education. This position requires call time.

Reports to: Director of Surgical Services

Key Working Relationships: OR Staff, physicians, allied health professionals, other RHS staff, and Administration
Primary Customer Groups: Employees, patients, families, public
Age of Patients Served: All ages
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DETAILED DUTIES:

Utilizes principles and techniques of decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, universal precautions, and environmental control. Utilizes and provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs. Utilizes supplies to reduce waste. Keeps department stocked, organized and cleaned.

Assures physical preparation of areas of Surgery, Endoscopy, Recovery Room and Central Supply.

Assures interdisciplinary communication to ease implementation activities and meet patient\'s individual goals. Communicates plan of care and all pertinent information to other members of health care team.

Administers medications and treatments accurately and accepts accountability for own actions and errors.

Identifies patient problems appropriate for infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. Recognizes changes in clinical situations, alters plan of care appropriately, and continues to monitor effectiveness. Performs appropriate assessment and utilizes critical thinking skills in interpreting data and responding appropriately.

Charts accurately and legibly in a timely manner. Uses appropriate chart forms. Documentation reflects the use of nursing process.

Coordinates patient flow and care based on patient assessment in and out of department. Establishes a priority schedule of patient activities when indicated.

Responds to on-call situations promptly.

Communicates with departmental director regarding risk management, quality improvement and infection control issues which need to be addressed. Participates in patient care quality assessment activities, including chart reviews. Maintains records.

Stays current with policies, procedures, equipment, and supplies. Assists with developing and reviewing policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Current RN license in State of Iowa
Previous experience as RN in most hospital nursing situations, including critical care. Operating Room experience is preferred.
ACLS certified.
High energy level with ability to work under stress and exhibit maturity, stability, and flexibility.
Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with Medical Staff.
BLS (CPR) certified or obtained within 3 months of employment.
