The Science Museum of Virginia is looking for a MiX and Youth Programs Supervisor who will plan, develop, execute and assess our teen and youth programs. This person will be passionate about finding ways to connect teens and youth to the STEM all around them while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

This person will lead The MiX, the Science Museum’s teen-only makerspace, and will train and motivate MiX Mentors to deliver programming that keeps teens coming back to explore new skills and creative pursuits.

The MiX and Youth Programs Supervisor will also collaborate with staff on teen-based programming including out-of-school time programs in The Forge, the Science Museum’s all-ages makerspace; outreach and community events; and teen intern and volunteer programs.

This position is a Wednesday through Sunday Position. Some evenings also required

Qualifications:
Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in leading maker education programs and hands-on activities that seamlessly blend science, technology, engineering, math, and/or art. Extensive experience working with teenagers, particularly those from low-income and at-risk backgrounds, showcasing a commitment to youth development. Ability to establish rapport with young individuals while maintaining a professional demeanor. Proven track record in creating and delivering diverse programming and support services for teens, with a focus on STEM activities. In-depth knowledge of trends in recreational activities, community service, and leadership initiatives tailored for teenagers. Preferential experience in youth development programming, including expertise in social-emotional learning, social skills training, service learning, and/or trauma-informed practices. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, adept at engaging diverse audiences effectively. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving capabilities. Proficient in researching and adapting to new technologies, systems, and tools for incorporation into program design. Must possess flexibility, patience, and resourcefulness, coupled with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently. Experience in curriculum/program development as well as delivery is required.
Word Processing and Spreadsheet programs, such as Google Docs and Excel. Program development, implementation and evaluation experience and personnel management. Experience in a science center or similar environment showing progressive responsibility. Experience with Distance Learning platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet.
